A new year begins, and with it, a new horizon of culinary wonders and gastronomic surprises in Ibiza.
In this blog we give you some clues about what to expect for each season.
Winter
From mid-December to mid-March we can enjoy 3 extremely popular events among the islanders.
This year it starts off strong with the well-known Campionat mundial d'arrós de matances, which on January 31st debuts a new format with its “junior” version to support school trips to the town of Sant Antoni.
The same municipality celebrates the Concurs de sofrit pagés de Corona in Santa Agnès de Corona at the beginning of February; last year it was held on February 10th, but the date for this edition has not yet been confirmed.
Santa Eulària is not far behind and as every year brings us authentic flavours of the sea at the Fira des Gerret which is held on the first Saturday in March. Although the date is yet to be confirmed, you can make a note of it.
Winters in Ibiza always bring us local flavours worth discovering.
Spring
From mid-March to mid-June we can enjoy 2 gastronomic events in Ibiza and the many restaurant openings, which are beginning to prepare for summer.
At the beginning of April you will find the Fira Sabors Patrimoni de la Humanitat in the Ibizan capital, a day designed to highlight the products of our fields and coasts by producers and manufacturers, with tastings, activities, workshops and culinary creations.
The second event that we do not recommend you miss is the Fira de la patata vermella d’Eivissa from Sant Josep, a popular fair dedicated to one of the most emblematic products of our land: the Ibizan red potato. It is celebrated in mid-May.
Finally, we recommend that you keep an eye on the social networks and websites of your favorite restaurants, since many reopen their doors in spring to welcome the good weather.
And what better way to do so than visiting them?
Summer
Summer in Ibiza is fantastic! An unbeatable atmosphere and endless options to try the best cuisine on the island.
From mid-June to mid-September we recommend visiting beautiful beach restaurants or an idyllic terrace with views of the sea or the countryside Ibizans.
The island's wide range of restaurants allows us to offer practically any type of cuisine, from traditional to the most avant-garde fusions, or even signature cuisine.
The highlight of this season is the Ibiza Gourmet Fair, held at the end of summer at the Ibiza Fairgrounds (FECOEV), where the island's main restaurants, brands and food producers meet in the same space to promote the wide range of food that we are so proud of.
Autumn
Autumn is coming with a bang when it comes to gastronomic events, and you can enjoy up to 4 events between the end of September and mid-December.
The Fira de la Sal reminds us of the importance of this product on a historical level, not only gastronomically, but also for its contribution to our economy and the environmental relevance of the Parc Natural de Ses Salines. It is held in mid-October in Sant Jordi (municipality of Sant Josep).
With the start of the squid fishing season in October, the corresponding gastronomic fair also arrives in Sant Carles (municipality of Santa Eulària): a day full of very interesting proposals with this cephalopod as the centre of the action.
The town of Sant Miquel (in Sant Joan) hosts the popular Fira des polp i la patata vermella d’Eivissa at the end of November. Here, you will not only taste our traditional “frita de polp”, but each stop will surprise you with its original recipes.
To end the year, in December we encourage you to visit the Fira de sa matança de Sant Llorenç (in the municipality of Sant Joan): an entire day dedicated to this important celebration for the locals, with tastings based on pork and sobrasada.
